Barney Stein
Barney
has developed a unique style of listening carefully to the
body, moving slowly, and encouraging clients to breathe more
fully. He uses touch and stretching as a way of bringing awareness
to each area of the body so you can gently dissolve tension
and inhabit your body more fully. Barney brings many years
of experience to his work. Drawing upon his training in Zen
Shiatsu, Swedish and Deep
Tissue massage, and Rosen Method, he designs each session
to care for your individual needs.
Barney
has been pleased to offer WATSU
(aquatic bodywork) in the Boston area since the spring of
2000. WATSU stands for water shiatsu. In a WATSU
session, you are floated, moved through the water, stretched,
cradled and massaged in a pool of body-temperature water.
Your back, your neck, your shoulders, arms, hips and legsevery
part of you is invited to release and move freely. In an often
difficult, isolating world, WATSU offers us a rare opportunity
to feel deeply connected.
Whether in the massage treatment room or the WATSU pool,
Barneys clients feel deeply supported and at ease.
Barney was certified in Shiatsu and Swedish Massage (1987)
and WATSU (2000) at Harbin Hot Springs School of Shiatsu and
Massage. He has also studied Healing Dance (2003), another
form of aquatic bodywork. Barney is a graduate of Jean Houstons
Human Capacities Training Program, has studied Rosen Method
bodywork and Continuum movement, practices Vipassana meditation,
and teaches body and energy awareness classes. Also a chef,
he is dedicated to nourishing the life of the body. Barney
is a member of the Worldwide Aquatic Bodywork Association
(WABA) and Associated Bodywork and Massage Professionals (ABMP).
